Get to know APOCALYPSE before he KILLS US ALL!!!

"I am eternal!"  (comicvine.com)

Bryan Singer has officially signed on to direct X-Men: Apocalypse

If you stayed past the end credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past – and let’s face it, if you’re reading my blog, you probably did – then you know Apocalypse is the next villain to do battle in the X-Men movie franchise.

This next instalment will take place 10 years after Days and, according to deadline.com, will have the First Class characters meeting up with younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, Jean, and others.  Channing Tatum is also rumoured to be playing Gambit.

"From a visual standpoint, it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there'll be disaster movie imagery..."- Bryan Singer

But, who is Apocalypse? What are his powers? And who are those figures in the background during the post-credits scene?

"I know more of this world than you can ever dream." (comicvine.com)

Thought to be one of the first mutants ever, Apocalypse was born 5000 years ago and was given the name En Sabah Nur or “The First One.” He was raised to be a conqueror and firmly believes in survival of the fittest.  He’s travelled the world for thousands of years, instigating wars to determine which nation is strongest, and he now believes mutants are meant to replace humanity as the dominant species on Earth.

Don’t expect Magneto and Apocalypse to get along, though. According to Apocalypse, he’s as far beyond mutants as they are beyond humans.

Apocalypse can change his appearance, increase his size by absorbing mass, and uses ancient alien technology to attain his evil goals.

"Look upon the future, AND TREMBLE!"  (comictrash.com)

So, who are those figures in the background? You guessed it: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, including War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death.  Apocalypse has genetically altered and brainwashed a number of Marvel characters to serve as his horseman over the years, including Hulk (as War) and Archangel (Death).

And did I mention he's a certified quote machine? Check out this montage from the 90's TV series to get a taste of what our favourite mutants are up against.

Apocalypse promises to be the most powerful villain the X-Men have ever faced and I can’t wait to see who will be stepping into his giant metallic boots.

X-Men: Apocalypse will debut May 27, 2016.

  1. i am sceptical about how they will portray cyclops and jean grey...as if it were 10 years into the future..that would place the timeline around when Magneto and Professor X visited Jean as a child at her house...and cyclops you would assume is of similar age...so are they going to be children?!? or are we going to have to deal with more time line issues..

  2. Good point, Cliff. I think they're hoping fans won't do the math because the timeline is getting super complicated with all of the time travelling and alternate timelines. I'm still not sure how Xavier got his body back...

  3. I can't wait for Apocalypse time! I'm so relieved that Singer holds the reins again, after the disaster that was X3. I'm thankful that Days of Future Past appears to have removed a lot of those blunders from continuity.
