5 REASONS to watch ATTACK ON TITAN before A GIANT EATS YOU!

Dear Readers, the time has come. Despite the wealth of COMIC BOOK MOVIE news and COMIC BOOK MOVIE reviews I could do, I’ve deciding to do a LIST about a TV SHOW. Why? Because it’s my damn blog, that’s why!

So without further adieu, here are 5 reasons why you must watch ATTACK ON TITAN!

1. IT'S BASED ON A REALLY COOL MANGA

The best thing about AoT is its source material.

AoT is based on Shingeki no Kyojin, or “Advancing Giants,” written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama.

Remember reading old fairy tales like Jack and the Beanstalk as a kid and imagining how scary man-eating giants would be? AoT mixes anime, horror, and steam punk, with creepy old fairy tale imagery to develop a really engaging universe.

AoT takes place in a world that’s been devastated by seemingly mindless man-eating titans. The last of humanity survives behind three massive concentric walls that keep the giants out (most of the time). The privileged and powerful are safest, living within the inner most walls, while the poor live closest to the titans. The walls have given the last of humanity a hundred years of peace, but that peace ends in spectacular fashion within the first episode.

AoT centers on Eren Yeager: a young man obsessed with killing titans, his adopted sister Mikasa: a gifted fighter, and their childhood friend Armin: a natural strategist.

The three of them join the Cadets Corps: An elite squad dedicated to venturing outside the walls and learning as much as they can about titans. The “Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear” are essentially steam-powered grappling hooks (sort of a cross between Link’s hook shot and Spiderman’s webbing) and allows them to travel at incredible speeds and stand toe to toe with the titans.

I don’t want to reveal too much more than that because there are a number of plot twists, and the show does an excellent job of fleshing out the universe using cool little informational slides between scenes.

2. IT PULLS YOU IN AND LOOKS GOOD DOING IT

AoT looks incredible.

The animation is smooth, the visuals are stunning, the action is suspenseful, and the world of AoT is just begging to be explored.

And did I mention it’s directed by Tetsuro Araki? Araki made writing in a notebook look suspenseful for 37 episodes of Death Note, and it’s one of my favorite anime series.  So if you’re familiar with his other work, you can expect to see some intense characters and prolonged suspense.

3. IT'S SCARY AS HELL

Halloween is coming up fast, and if you’re looking for a good scare, AoT is for you.

These pictures don’t really do them justice, but trust me the titans ARE scary. They’re creepy, incredibly dangerous, and in true anime style, AoT does not shy away from brutal violence, and I do mean brutal – so don’t expect the deaths to be quick or quiet.

But what will really get to you is the fact that no character is safe, so you really start to see the titans from the characters’ point of view. They’re virtually unstoppable and humanity doesn’t stand much of a chance.

"Uhh, okay! I uhh think we've heard that before!"

Isayama has said that he models the titans on photographs of people with unsettling expressions. Uh, YEAH! I find them pretty unsettling!

I think what disturbs me most is that the titans seem almost childlike. Some wail like they’re in pain, some have joker grins on their faces, and others just look curious and confused. Most titans are 3-15 meters tall, but the Colossal Titan (pictured at the top) is taller than a 50-meter wall!

My point is, they’re totally unpredictable, but they all like to eat people.
*shiver*

4. YOU CAN WATCH IT ON NETFLIX

Canadian? American? Saudi Arabian? (I’m looking at you, 1 page view from Saudi Arabia) IT DOESN’T MATTER! If you have Netflix, then you have the first season of AoT already, so get on there and start watching!

* While I’m at it, HEY FRANCE! Whoever has been checking out my    blog in France, I salute you.

5. THERE'S A LIVE-ACTION MOVIE IN THE WORKS

You fools!

It’s called SUPER MOVIES with MATT, not SUPER TV. Of course there’s a movie coming. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you when. Some sources say as early as Summer 2016, but we’ll just have to see.

Fans of the anime can still look forward to a couple of prequel episodes that are expected in December, and Season 2 should be out sometime in 2015.

Either way, get into AoT now so that you can be super duper excited for some human-munching action down the road.

Not satisfied, eh? Here's a video to whet your appetite.
