Week in Video: FIREFLY/DAREDEVIL/POWERS

This week in Nerdy TV, we have a show trying to get started, a show on its way, and a show that just debuted.

Con Man

Firefly fans, rejoice! Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion just launched an Indiegogo campaign for a new show written by Tudyk. No, it’s not a continuation of Firefly, but it’s the next best thing.

Con Man will star Tudyk and Fillion as versions of themselves, hitting up comic conventions and interacting with their strange and delightful fans. Tudyk’s character, a spaceship pilot on a sci-fi series called “Spectrum,” hasn’t had much success since the show was abruptly cancelled, while Fillion, the captain, has gone on to mainstream success. Sound familiar? I can’t wait to see this project come together; both actors have great comedic chops (Check out Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil if you haven’t already.)

Check out their promo video below. It features a slough of celebrity cameos, including Gina Torres!

Daredevil

Daredevil showed off Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) in a substantial new trailer on Tuesday.

Vincent D’Onofrio plays Fisk, a physically massive criminal mastermind and Daredevil’s main adversary. Apparently D’Onofrio packed on some weight to play the role, and he’s got the acting talent to be a truly menacing bad guy. By the looks of the trailer, he should be the perfect actor to play this major Marvel villain. We also get to see Scott Glenn (Sucker Punch) as Stick, Daredevil’s blind mentor.

I have to admit, I was skeptical about this show at first, but Daredevil is looking better and better as time goes on. And this first look at Kingpin and Stick has me more excited than ever. As for Daredevil, his lo-fi mask reminds me of Bruce Wayne in Batman: Year One — an inexperienced ninja vigilante. But it begs the question: will we see him in his classic red outfit?

See for yourself on April 10 when Season 1 debuts.

 Powers

Powers is based on the comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming

The PlayStation Network’s first scripted original series debuted on Tuesday. Powers takes place in a world where humans co-exist with superheroes.

Sharlto Copley (District 9) stars as Christian Walker, a detective in a special homicide division investigating super humans they refer to as “powers.” Eddie Izzard plays the Big Bad Wolfe, Walker’s longtime enemy — and I mean longtime! If you want some spoilers, check out Walker’s biography here.

This is the first time I’m hearing of Powers (and the PlayStation Network!) but from what I’ve seen, Powers has a very interesting premise and some great talent behind it — David Slade, director of the Hannibal TV series, directed the first two episodes.

Which show are you most excited about? If you don’t comment, I might have to serve up some ninja vigilante justice.

Until next time.
