I don’t usually write about little tidbits of gossip, but
since this story involves two actors I really love, and one of my favorite
comic book characters of all time (!), I just couldn’t help myself.
In an interview with MTV International, Hugh Jackman, the
man who has defined Wolverine with seven movies over the past fifteen years,
said he thinks Tom Hardy would make a great Wolverine in future installments.
See the video below.
On a few occasions I’ve wondered who would don the claws
after Jackman bows out of the role in 2017, and I’m surprised I never thought
of Hardy. He would make an excellent Wolverine — he’s an excellent actor with
great on-screen presence, not to mention the right physique for a Hollywood
Wolverine. (An accurate comic-book version would require a roided out, 5 foot 3
mongrel of an actor.)
And, of course, this wouldn’t be Hardy’s first foray into
comic book movies. Right now you’re thinking, “Ah yesh! He played Baaaane!” Yesh,
he did. But that’s not all!

In August, after dropping out of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad,
Hardy revealed that he’s involved in an upcoming film adaptation of 100 Bullets
— and he’s teaming up with New Line and DC’s Vertigo imprint to do it. So, it
looks as though Hardy is still firmly entrenched with DC. Maybe this little bit
of gossip will give Marvel an extra push to lure Hardy to their side?
Whether he becomes Wolverine or not, I am giving this
casting idea a big thumbs up. With good writing and a smart director attached,
Hardy could definitely be a worthy successor to Jackman.
Let’s just hope they let the character rest after Jackman’s third
solo outing in 2017. I would hate to see Wolverine go the route of The Amazing
Spider-Man. *shiver*
